The Mission Statement of 11 March 2002 that is underlying
the Perkins EVW OEM Partnership sets out the lines along
which the cooperation is running.
Since the time of signature the declaration of intent
has penetrated everyday practice. With recent developments
in the diesel and gas engine market EVW’s OEM
Partner status has certainly resulted in added value
for the end user. Whereas the market used to apply
conventional technology and mechanical know-how, the
breakthrough of electronics and software can now no
longer be overlooked. At the same time this development
requires utmost prudence at the level of system reliability
and support. To make sure they can offer service quality
to the end user and to protect their brand image,
engine manufacturers will therefore leave service
operations only in the hands of specialized companies,
i.e. partners. As yet, there are only a handful of
recognized partners, ensuring direct and especially
efficient communication between the manufacturers
and their customers. As a result, the resources to
provide adequate end customer support have become
highly concentrated and have created formerly unknown
and indeed quite impressive service opportunities.
In the OEM Partnership between Perkins and EVW this
is reflected in EVW’s licence to use TIPPS,
the Perkins system and support software for so-called
electronic (“E”) engines. Acquisition
of software licenses and training of engineers and
technical managers going along with it are indispensable
investment efforts for the OEM partners to engage
in if they wish to secure and even expand their market
positions. Obviously, this approach will only be realistically
affordable for companies exclusively specializing
in one single engine make. And this is the path chosen
with determination by EVW, years ago already.
